Easy Indian recipes: Hara Masala Keema–Ground Beef with cilantro and mint

Hara Masala Keema literally translates to ground beef with green spices. This easy Indian recipe uses ingredients like cilantro and mint.  Hara Masala Keema is traditionally eaten with an Indian bread like chapati, naan, or even a plain paratha. You can also substitute the ground beef with either ground chicken or ground turkey.

  • Total Time: 65-70 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 1 ½ lb of extra lean ground beef
  • ½ bunch of cilantro
  • ½ bunch of mint
  • 1 small onion
  • 3  green onions
  • 2 inch piece of ginger
  • 3-4 green chilies
  • 2 tablespoon of coriander powder
  • ¼ tablespoon of turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ¼ cup of oil

Cooking Instructions:

  1. Add oil to pan. Let oil warm up.
  2. Add onions. Let onions cook for 3-5 minutes.
  3. Add beef, shredded ginger, salt, turmeric powder, and coriander powder.
  4. Let it cook uncovered on low heat for 10 minutes so some of the water evaporates from the meat.
  5. Add cut up green chili.
  6. Cover pan and let it cook for 10 minutes.
  7. Let it cook for another 25 minutes without the lid so that more of the water can evaporate from the meat.
  8. Add cut up green onions.
  9. Cook on high heat for 3-5 minutes while stirring to evaporate the excess water.
  10. Add mint and stir.
  11. Add cilantro.
  12. Cover and cook on low heat for an additional 3-5 minutes.
  13. Serve with bread (roti).
